How can I get ready for my project consultation?

This project planner has been created to help you think about your web project and aid us in understanding your exact requirements.

Preliminary

  • Who is the project requestor? What is their role in the department or group? How long will this person be involved?
  • Who is the project sponsor or approver?
  • What is the sponsoring department, event, or group?
  • What is the primary phone number to contact you?
  • What are the emails of the participants that need to be included in the communication?

Planning

  • What is the desired timeline for the project?
  • Information about your current website or related web presence.
  • What is it that your group does? What are the key features of the service or product you provide?
  • Is this a redesign or enhancement of an existing website or a brand new website?
  • If you are redesigning, what are the reasons? [examples: new business model, outdated look, new branding, new technologies needed]

People

  • What is the target audience of the website, and what skill level do you think they possess?
  • Who will provide the information that will be included during the development?
  • Who will be approving new information or content for edits?
  • Who will be tasked with performing the updates and editing, and what experience or web skills do they have?
  • Who will manage and be responsible for the site long term?
  • Who will be the point of contact for the project team to talk to?

Purpose

  • What is it that your target audience will use your website for?
  • What interactivity does the website require (search, members area, forums, blog)
  • What data does your site need to utilize?
  • What media and aesthetics elements does the site require?
  • What other systems does it need to interact with?
  • Is the site intended to be used to take online payments or donations?

Peripherals

  • What special 'feel' do you think the site will need to have?
  • What imagery will it contain? Where will that come from?
  • Are there external services that might be desirable to add in?
  • Do you already have - or need - specialized design work or branding?
  • Do you already have - or need - supplementary elements to accompany the site (brochures, flyers, etc)?
